Government Relations. Public Affairs. Marketing Communications.

Experience. Commitment. Results.

The Public Sector Group was founded in 2009 by Doug Miskew with a vision to help clients win government business and influence public policy by implementing targeted and effective communications strategies. We have broad experience in technology, financial services, health care, transportation and education. We value long-term relationships and pride ourselves in knowing as much (or more) about our clients' business as they do. We run a lean operation and team with other consultants to bring the best available knowledge and resources to accomplishing the objectives of our clients.

Doug Miskew, President

Doug has more than two decades of experience in government relations and public affairs. Prior to founding the Public Sector Group, he spent eight years with Capstrat, North Carolina’s leading communications firm, serving as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs. He now serves in an “Of Counsel” role for Capstrat.

For the past 12 years, Doug has provided government and public affairs services in North Carolina. He developed his skills on Capitol Hill, at IBM and in a technology start up. He served for eight years as a senior staff member of the U.S. House of Representatives for U.S. Representatives Cass Ballenger (R-NC) and Mel Hancock (R-MO), focusing on health care, taxation, transportation and international trade. He later put his government experience to work in the corporate sector.

For seven years, Doug worked in the information technology industry as a corporate public affairs, communications and marketing professional for IBM, and as an executive for a startup software firm. At IBM he led public affairs and communications efforts for public sector industry groups, and managed federal and state government relations in a 15-state region.

Doug has led numerous public affairs campaigns and government relations initiatives in North Carolina and across the country.  His work supports businesses and organizations that need “permission to operate” by government. He has built an expertise in technology policy and procurement and has worked with numerous organizations to develop public sector business opportunities in North Carolina.

Doug holds a B.S. in political science from Appalachian State University. As a 2000 Eisenhower Fellow, Doug studied the role of business in influencing technology policies in Singapore and Australia.
